Harmony of the West
Formena 1 was founded after all four members attended a music workshop near Canberra in Feb. 2009.
The guys, all members of the Geelong (Bay City) Conchords Barbershop Chorus decided to try quarteting to improve their singing skills.
I wasn't long before they had put together a small repertoire and began trying out at local venues.
Much to their suprise the audience reception was fantastic which spurred the guys into working harder and increasing the size of their repertoire.
They are now concentrating on developing a more modern style of music to widen their appeal to some of the younger generation.
The quartet consists of Rob who is the lead singer and generally carries the melody,
while Russ who sings bass provides the foundation of the song. Dave our tenor is the guy with the tight undies, who reaches the notes that nobody else dare try, while Gordy the bari cements it all together by filling in with the missing notes.
The quartet often provides some alternative music with Rob singing and playing guitar as well as Russ playing a mean trumpet or guitar.
Dave is also handy on the guitar while Gordy the senior member of the quartet (read Old Fart) can neither play guitar trumper or anything else - but is a whiz with a pitch pipe!
To date the guys have performed at both private and corporate functions and a few concerts. They are happy to discuss the requirements of anyone wishing to book them and to adapt their repertoire to suit.
